So today I went shopping. For some reason, shopping with my mom always leads to something catastrophic.

For a while now I've been in need of a new jacket and new pair of shoes. So for the past week I've been looking around online for shoes I liked because we pretty much agreed that I wouldn't find what I was looking for in a local store. Then my mom says that she doesn't want me getting shoes online, especially if we can't return them.

Now I would agree with anyone who was to say I have a very particular taste in clothing. I can be very difficult to buy for, but i don't necessarily think it's a bad thing.

Some may find it hard to believe, but I actually hate to repetitively buy the same thing or similar things. For a while now I've been stuck in a rut and I'm really getting sick and tired of letting it go on. So for this new pair of shoes, I wanted to escape that rut. I wanted Creepers. Well, maybe not the traditional Creepers, more like Creeper Sneakers. These shoes are not very popular. The only store I've seen with anything like them has been Hot Topic and at the store near me, they only had one pair and they were just plain black, boring sneakers.

So since I was cut off from my one source of Creepers; the Internet. I ended up buying said pair of plain black, boring Creeper Sneakers.

When I got home, I was feeling pretty upset. I had been hoping to escape my rut and failed. As I thought about it, I felt that talking to my parents would be the best route. They are the ones who have the money to buy the clothes. So I made a little graph demonstrating what I like and what I don't like. I went and got both of my parents, got them to sit down, and I started telling them about how I've felt about my clothing and I showed the the graph and yadda yadda yadda.

Then a surprising turn of events. My father was actually the one who got mad. He started criticizing me for wanting to wear nothing but "black leather and chains" and for trying to be a "conformist." Yet he later said he didn't get why I was trying to be so far from the norm. My thoughts? Don't conform to the small groups, conform the norm?

By this point I began to regret my choice to bring the matter to my parents attention. My dad seemed very angry and I was becoming borderline hysterical. Once my dad left, however, my mom seemed to have gotten something out of it all. She wasn't mad at all about me not liking the shoes we got. She talked to me some and told me that if this was really how I wanted to dress, then I'd have to really search for it because I wouldn't be able to find exactly what I wanted in stores.

I'm still unsure if today was a good thing or a bad. I just ate dinner and I did talk to my dad, but I had trouble looking him in the face.

March 24 was my 16th Birthday. A whole year and I'm still wearing the same shoes and jacket.
